Quotes
DEAN: Before dad died, he... he told me somethin'. Somethin' about you.SAM: What? Dean, what did he tell you?
DEAN: He said that he... wanted me to watch out for you. Take care of you.
SAM: He told you that a million times.
DEAN: [shakes head] This time was different. He said that I had to... save you.
SAM: Save me from what?
DEAN: He just said that I have to save you, that nothing else mattered, and that if I couldn't, I'd...
SAM: You'd what, Dean?
DEAN: I'd have to kill you. He said that I might have to kill you, Sammy.
SAM: Kill me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
DEAN: I don't know.
SAM: I mean, he must've had some kind of reason for sayin' it, right? I mean, did he know the demon's plans for me? Am I supposed to go dark side or something? What else did he say, Dean?
DEAN: Nothin', that's it, I swear.
SAM: How could you not've told me this?
DEAN: Because he was dad and he begged me not to.
SAM: [yelling] Who cares? Take some responsibility for yourself, Dean! You had no right to keep this from me!
DEAN: You think I wanted this? Huh? I wish to God he'd never opened his mouth! Then I wouldn't have to walk around with this screamin' in my head all day!
[Sam shakes his head and turns away from Dean]
SAM: We just gotta figure out what's goin' on, then, what the hell all this means.
DEAN: We do? I been thinkin' about this, I think we should just lay low, you know? At least for a while. Be safer. Then that way I could make sure...
SAM: What? That I don't turn evil? That I don't turn into some kind of killer?
DEAN: I never said that.
SAM: Jeez, you're not careful, you will have to waste me one day, Dean.
DEAN: I never said that! Damn it, Sam, this whole thing is spinnin' out of control. You're immune to some weirdo demon virus, and I don't even know what the hell anymore. And you're pissed at me, and I get it, that's fine, I deserve it. But we lay low until we figure out our next move, okay?
SAM: Forget it.
DEAN: Sam, please, man. [hits Sam's shoulder] Hey, please. Just give me some time. Give me some time to think, okay, I'm beggin' you here. Please. Please.
ELLEN: [looks up from the bar] Sam.
SAM: Hey, Ellen. You don't seem that surprised to see me.
ELLEN: Your brother's been callin', worried sick, lookin' for you.
SAM: Yeah. Figured he might.
ELLEN: What's goin' on between you two?
SAM: [ducks his head, avoiding the question] So, um, how's Jo?
ELLEN: Well, I don't really know.
SAM: What do you mean?
ELLEN: I haven't seen her in weeks. She sends a postcard now and again.
SAM: Well, what happened?
ELLEN: Well, after she worked that job with you boys, she decided she wanted to keep on huntin'. I said, not under my roof, and she said fine.
SAM: So, I'm probably the last person you wanna see now.
ELLEN: [laughs] Oh, don't get me wrong. I wish I could blame the hell outta you boys. It'd be easier. Truth is, it's not your fault. Sam, none of it is. I want you to know that I forgave your daddy a long time ago, for what happened to my Bill. I just don't think he ever forgave himself.
SAM: What did happen?
ELLEN: [looks down, avoiding the question] Um, so, why did you come here, sweetie?
SAM: I need help.
AVA: Last night, I had another one.
SAM: Okay.
AVA: About you. I saw you die.
SAM: How did you find me?
AVA: Oh, uh, you had motel stationery and I Googled the motel and it was real and so I just thought that I should... warn you.
SAM: [incredulous] I don't believe this.
AVA: [exasperated] Oh, of course you don't. You think I'm a total nutjob.
SAM: No, no, no, I mean, you must be one of us.
AVA: Sorry, one of... one of who?
SAM: One of the psychics, like me. Look, Ava, I have visions too, alright? So, so, so we're connected.
AVA: [laughs disbelievingly] Okay, so, you're nuts. That's great.
SAM: No, okay, okay, okay look. Did your mother happen to die in a housefire?
AVA: No, my mother lives in Palm Beach!
SAM: So you don't fit the pattern either.
DEAN: Come on, Ellen, please. Somethin' bad could be goin' on here and I swore I'd look after that kid.
ELLEN: Now, Dean, they say you can't protect your loved ones forever. [pauses] Well, I say screw that. What else is family for? He's in Lafayette, Indiana.
AVA: Okay, you know what? Screw you, buddy. Okay? 'cause I'm a secretary from Peoria and I'm not part of anything, okay? D'you see this? [she holds up her hand to show Sam her engagement ring] I am getting married in eight weeks. I am supposed to be at home addressing invitations, which I am way behind on, by the way. But instead, I drove out here to save your weirdo ass. But if you just wanna stay here and die, fine. Me? I'm due back on Planet Earth.
SAM: Don't you wanna know why this is happening? [Ava pauses] I mean, don't these visions scare the hell out of you? 'cause if you walk out that door right now, you might never know the truth. [Ava turns back to Sam] I need your help.
SAM: [after he and Ava have returned from Dr. Waxler's office with Scott Carey's file] You okay?
AVA: Am I okay?
SAM: Yeah.
AVA: I just helped you steal some dead guy's confidential psych files. [she pauses and grins] I'm awesome! [Sam laughs]
DEAN: [in the parking lot of Sam's motel; sees Sam in the window of his motel room] Thank God you're okay. [Sam moves away from the window and Dean sees Ava; he grins] Ah, you're better than okay, Sam, you sly dog.
DEAN: [after punching Gordon a few times] You do that to my brother, I'll kill you!
GORDON: Dean, wait... [Dean hits him some more and Gordon hits him with his gun, knocking him off of him]
SAM: [holding up the rifle shells] These are 223 caliber, subsonic grounds, the guy must've put a suppressor on the rifle.
AVA: Dude. Who are you?
SAM: Um, I just, uh, I just watch a lot of T.J. Hooker. [pulls out his phone]
AVA: Who are you calling?
SAM: My brother. I think we definitely need help.
DEAN: [answering phone] Hello?
SAM: Dean!
DEAN: Sam, I've been lookin' for you.
SAM: Yeah, uh, look, I'm in Indiana. Uh, Lafayette.
DEAN: I know.
SAM: You do?
DEAN: Yeah, I talked to Ellen. Just got here myself. It's a real funky town. You ditched me, Sammy.
SAM: Yeah, I'm sorry. [looks suspicious] Look, um, there's someone after me.
DEAN: What? Who? [looks up at Gordon]
SAM: I dunno, that's what we need to find out. Where are you?
DEAN: I'm stayin' at 5637 Monroe Street. Why don't you meet me here?
SAM: Yeah, sure. [hangs up]
GORDON: [hanging up Dean's phone] Now was that so hard?
DEAN: Bite me.
AVA: What is it?
SAM: My brother's in trouble.
AVA: [worried] What?
SAM: He gave me a code word. Someone's got a gun on him. [writing down address]
AVA: Code word?
SAM: Yeah. Funky town. [looks up at Ava] He thought of it. It's kind of... a long story... come on.
DEAN: Well, we did leave you tied up in your own mess for three days. [laughs] Which was awesome. Sorry, I shouldn't laugh.
SAM: I want you out of harm's way, Ava.
AVA: What about you?
SAM: Harm's way doesn't really bother me.
AVA: No, but you are walking right into my vision. I mean, this is how you die!
SAM: Doesn't matter. It's my brother.
DEAN: Come on, man. I know Sam, okay, better than anyone. He's got more of a conscience than I do, I mean, the guy feels guilty surfing the internet for porn.
GORDON: Maybe you're right. But one day, he's gonna be a monster.
DEAN: How? Huh? How's a guy like Sam become a monster?
GORDON: Beats me. But he will.
DEAN: No, you don't know that!
GORDON: [looks at Dean] I'm surprised at you, Dean. Gettin' all emotional. I'd heard you were more of a professional than this. [Dean looks down, laughing slightly] Look. Let's say, you're crusin' around in that car of yours and, uh, you had little Hitler riding shotgun. [Dean glares at Gordon] Right? Back when he was just some goofy, crappy artist. But you knew what he was gonna turn into someday. You'd take him out, no questions, am I right?
DEAN: That's not Sam.
GORDON: Yes it is. You just can't see it yet. Dean, it's his destiny. Look, I'm sympathetic, he's your brother, you love the guy, it's gotta hurt like hell for you. [Gordon stands, pulling a bandana from his bag; he walks behind Dean] But here's the thing. [Gordon gags Dean] It would've wrecked him, but your dad... if it really came right down to it, he would've had the stones to do the right thing here. But you're tellin' me, you're not the man he is?
GORDON: Shouldn't take your shoes off around here. Might get tetanus.
SAM: Put it down now!
GORDON: [lays his gun on the floor] You wouldn't shoot me, wouldja, Sammy? 'cause your brother, he thinks you're some kind of saint.
SAM: Yeah, well, I wouldn't be so sure.
GORDON: See, that's what I said.
DEAN: You call this taken care of? [he and Sam duck behind a small ridge of dirt] What the hell are we doin'?
SAM: Just trust me on this, alright?
[Sam and Dean watch as police cars surround Gordon]
COP: Drop your weapons, get down on your knees!
COP 2: Do it now!
[Gordon falls to his knees, dropping the guns on the road. He is handcuffed and led to a waiting car. Sam and Dean watch from afar, amused, as the police discover Gordon's cache of weapons.]
SAM: Anonymous tip.
DEAN: You're a fine upstanding citizen, Sam. [he and Sam grin]
DEAN: Dude, you ever take off like that again...
SAM: What? You'll kill me? [he grins]
DEAN: So not funny.
SAM: [laughs] Alright. Alright. So where to next, then?
DEAN: One word: Amsterdam.
SAM: Dean-
DEAN: Come on, man, I hear the coffee shops don't even serve coffee.
SAM: I'm not gonna just ditch the job-
DEAN: Screw the job. Screw it, man, I'm sick of the job anyway. I mean, we don't get paid. We don't get thanked. Only thing we get's bad luck.
SAM: Well... come on, dude, you're a hunter. I mean, it's what you were meant to do.
DEAN: Aw, I wasn't meant to do anything, I don't believe in that destiny crap.
SAM: You mean you don't believe in my destiny.
DEAN: Well, whatever.
SAM: Look, Dean, I've tried running before. I mean, I ran all the way to California and look what happened. You can't run from this. And you can't protect me.
DEAN: I can try.
SAM: Thanks for that. Look, Dean, I'm gonna keep huntin'. I mean, whatever's comin', I'm takin' it head on. So if you really wanna watch my back, I guess you're gonna have to stick around.
DEAN: Bitch.
SAM: Jerk. [tries to call Ava again]
DEAN: You callin' that Ava girl again? You sweet on her or somethin'?
SAM: She's engaged, Dean.
DEAN: So? What's the point in savin' the world if you can't get a little nookie once in a while, huh?
[Ava doesn't answer and Sam is concerned]
DEAN: What?
SAM: Just a feeling. How far is it to Peoria?
SAM: [when he and Dean find Ava's fiance dead] My god.
DEAN: [touching the window sill] Hey. Sulfur. Demon's been here.
SAM: [steps on something and looks down; bends and picks up Ava's engagement ring] Ava.
